Old SMs βeta

One of the problems with the old site was the amount of uncontrolled spam and "dodgy" content uploaded by users and by automated processes on the Internet. This was due to the way that people were allowed to "sign-up" to the Old SMs site.

To prevent this happening again, you can no longer sign up to the Old SMs website. Instead, you will need a Facebook account in order to post comments. Whilst I know this is a pain for people who do not have Facebook accounts - or do not like Facebook - it does allow me to put the site back online to all users.

If you already have a Facebook account, you can use it to login to this site using the "Connect with Facebook" button at the top righ hand side of the screen...

 

This will bring up Facebook Connet login screen...

 

Enter your Facebook email and password into the boxes and click "Connect". This will log you into Facebook and then you should be able to add comments to the site.

PLEASE NOTE: At no point does your login information get passed to the Old SMs site! What is happening is that the popup window is part of Facebook, you send your details directly to Facebook and their servers then log you into Old SMs. You can find out more about this authentication method at the Facebook Developer's site : http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Facebook_Connect.

Once logged in, your Facebook Photo will be shown in the top right hand corner - along with a "Logout" link...

 

Again, none of your Facebook data is passed to Old SMs. Your privacy is maintained.

If you do not yet have a Facebook account, you can sign up to Facebook - where there is quite an active BBC and Bush House contingent - by going to their website at http://www.facebook.com

It is possible that I could use other sites - such as MySpace - to provide authentication in future but it is a lot of work. For now, Facebook will be the only method.
